Welcome to the Centennial Singers website.
We would be delighted if you would consider singing with us. No auditions are required to join but experience as a choral singer is helpful. If you would like to sing with the group – please join us. Because of the need to learn to sing as a group, there is a cut-off date for membership (after the third week of the start of each session) which will allow sufficient time to rehearse. Provided below is some basic introductory information about the Centennial Singers.
HOW MANY TIMES DOES THE CHORUS PERFORM PER YEAR?
We have two concert seasons (fall and spring) per choral year. Both main concerts are performed on a Saturday evening at Log College Middle School in Warminster. In the weeks prior to the main concert, we perform four to six “mini-concerts” during the week in the evening at area retirement homes and other venues.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO WE SING?
Our repertoire spans a variety of styles including popular, patriotic, show tunes, spirituals, classical, religious, folk and other novelty selections.
IS THERE ANY COST TO PARTICIPATE?
Dues are due at the beginning of each concert season. Currently, dues are $45 per season. There are no separate music fees. The music that is used is purchased by the Centennial Singers and remains part of our vast music library. There are additional costs for concert attire.
WHEN AND WHERE DOES THE CHORUS REHEARSE?
Rehearsals are held on Tuesday nights from 7:15 to 9:45 p.m. at Hatboro Baptist Church 32 N York Rd, Hatboro, PA. In general, rehearsals for the fall concert, which is usually held the second Saturday in December, begin on the Tuesday after Labor Day. Rehearsals for the spring concert, which is usually held the first Saturday in June, begin the first Tuesday in January.
A special “tech” rehearsal is held right before our two main concerts, usually on Friday night at Log College Middle School. This “dress rehearsal” is a very important rehearsal as it gives the chorus one last chance to polish the music before the concert.
IS THERE ANY SPECIAL ATTIRE REQUIRED FOR PERFORMANCE?
Women are required to purchase two specific tops, one for the December concert and one for the Spring concert. These are worn with a long black skirt, black stockings, & black shoes. Men are required to wear a white long sleeve shirt, black pants, black shoes, and a tie to be supplied by the group.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR PERFORMANCE?
Out of consideration for our members with allergies, we ask that all members refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, hair spray or any other scented products during rehearsals and concerts.
DO MEMBERS HAVE TO RAISE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MONEY?
Fundraising – soliciting contributions and advertisements is expected of chorus members. Centennial Singers’ ability to pay its ongoing expenses and continue to present our two free concerts to the community is significantly dependent upon every member’s best efforts. However, unlike many other organizations, we trust our members to make their best efforts and do not require each member to raise or solicit a certain amount. The Centennial Singers is recognized by the IRS as a Section 501(c)(3) organization.
